Beginning with JAWS 7.10 and MAGic 10.5, there is a "Training Materials" button in the program installation dialog box that gives you a list of DAISY books on the JAWS and MAGic program CD. When you insert your JAWS or MAGic program CD, press TAB to move to the "Training Materials" button and activate it by pressing SPACEBAR. When you activate this button, you get a group of checkboxes that allow you to select which books to install and an OK button that, when activated, does it all for you automatically.

The brand new MAGic 11 Basic Training has been posted in both DAISY (text and audio) and MP3 formats. The Basic Training for MAGic 11 was completely redone and recorded in Windows Vista and Microsoft® Office 2007. This DAISY book contains over five hours of comprehensive training for all the essential functions of MAGic, including practice files you can use to follow along. You'll learn everything you need to know to get started quickly with MAGic and how to make use of its extensive set of features.

Within the new MAGic 11 Basic Training there are two different modules with information about Office 2007 and the majority of this also applies to JAWS. Look for module 18_Word and MAGic (12.9 MB) for information about comments, footnotes, and endnotes in Word 2007. Also get 23_Office 2007 with MAGic and JAWS (23.5 MB) for an introduction to Office 2007. A more detailed description of the introduction to Office 2007 module can be found below.

Press INSERT+F1 and JAWS provides messages that describe the current control or window. Screen Sensitive Help Messages appear in the Virtual Viewer, from which you can follow links to other related topics. Read the text at your leisure with regular JAWS commands or with an attached refreshable braille display.
MAGic users get similar results by pressing SHIFT+F1.
The HTML-based help systems in both MAGic and JAWS are easy to use and among the best in the world. The primary components include contents, index, and search pages. Also new to both MAGic and JAWS is a Web Resources submenu under the Help menu for each program.
The Startup Wizard, now available in both MAGic and JAWS, is a helpful tool that contains a series of dialog boxes. It lets you quickly configure some of the more commonly used program parameters. This saves time since you do not have to search multiple menus and managers to customize your copy of MAGic or JAWS. The Startup Wizard runs the first time you run JAWS or MAGic after installation. Run the Startup Wizard at any time by going to the Help menu > Startup Wizard.
