Winnetka, IL? The sidewalks of Winnetka will be crowded with dogs ? big dogs, small dogs, quiet dogs and loud dogs- Saturday, September 16th, as North Shore families participate in The Hadley School for the Blind’s first Hounds for Hadley Dog Walk. Dogs and their owners will start the walk at 9 a.m. at the school at 700 Elm Street and will end after a one-mile walk at Starbucks coffee shop on Chestnut Rd. for refreshments and prizes. Volunteers will help with directions and street crossings. “The idea to have a dog walk benefiting Hadley started when we wanted to raise funds for a course we are developing about the essentials of owning a guide dog,” said Jacque Sabian, Hadley development associate and chairwoman of the dog walk. “People in this community love their pets and the dog walk tied in perfectly with the development of Hadley’s guide dog course.” All proceeds from the event will go to Hadley’s “Guide Dogs” course. Seven national guide dog schools have donated $100,000 to Hadley to subsidize the development of the course. Money raised for the walk will fund operational costs of the course when it becomes available. “The response and interest have been phenomenal. It’s a great thing to do with your family and also help a local charity,” said Sabian.
