Winnetka, IL – Romance will fill the air at The Hadley School for the Blind for the first Reds, Whites and Braille Event, a wine and chocolate tasting to support Hadley’s braille literacy courses. The Winnetka Rotary Club is a co-sponsor of the event. Guests can sample chocolates provided by The Chocolate Box and Cheesecakes by Tina Marshall while listening to the jazz sounds of the Marty Jacobs Trio. Silpada jewelry by Dyan Lalley will be on display and available for purchase. The Wine Discount Center of Highland Park will offer bottles of whites and reds for tasting. “We are excited about this new event at Hadley,” said Susan Dennison, Director of Development and Communications. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to partner with a local organization like The Rotary to provide an enchanting evening for our community and help support braille literacy.” Hadley is a distance education school that serves over 10,000 students annually in all 50 states and 100 countries. All courses are offered free of charge to those who are blind and Hadley relies on contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations to fund its programs. “Braille literacy is essential to sharpen reading and writing skills, which are necessary to fulfill household needs, such as reading for pleasure, following recipes, labeling items and keeping financial records,” said George Abbott, Hadley’s Dean of Education. “Braille is also critical for those who cannot rely on print to fully participate in required functions of work, volunteerism and community involvement. I think it’s great that Hadley is doing this event to raise awareness on the importance of braille literacy.” Tickets for the event are $25/person or $35/couple and may be ordered by phone, 847-784-2794, mail, in person or online at www.hadley.edu/valentines.
